Food and Water is an actively managed equity fund with a quantitative management approach that invests globally in various industries in companies whose products, services or operations are directly or indirectly linked to the investment theme of food systems. Food systems refer to the value chain for food and water use, which includes, for example, cultivation, production, distribution, consumption and waste management. The fund invests in companies that the fund management company believes contribute to and/or can benefit from the transition to a more sustainable, safe and equitable global food system. The fund is actively managed and has a systematic investment strategy where sustainability is an integrated part of the investment process. The fund complies with Swedbank Robur’s Responsible Investment Policy. Read more about the policy in the fund’s Information Brochure and swedbankrobur.se.

Updated 2026-10-05The fund was launched on 2026-09-15 and its investments can be grouped into five themes: water management, sustainable agriculture, food production and processing, packaging and logistics, and recycling. The water management theme posted positive performance during the period, while the other themes posted slightly negative performance.
Within water management, Gorman-Rupp performed well. The US company manufactures and sells flow-control equipment for areas such as water supply, wastewater management and agriculture. Swedish company Alfa Laval, which provides technology that makes industrial food processes more energy-efficient, resource-efficient and sustainable, and Japanese company Kurita Water Industries, whose services enable industry to use water more efficiently, also contributed positively.
Negative contributors included US company Darling Ingredients, which processes organic raw materials such as used cooking oil and slaughter by-products into animal feed, products for the food industry (such as gelatin) and biofuels, including aviation biofuel. The company performed weakly during the month alongside several agriculture- and food-related companies, including the fund's holding KWS SATT SE & Co (Germany), which produces seeds for crops and grains. The companies are under pressure from falling grain and oilseed prices, harvest pressure in the US and uncertain demand from China, while raw-material costs for the meat industry have risen.
Food and agricultural logistics chains have also generally been affected by weather disruptions and geopolitical uncertainty, weighing on both the agricultural and food sectors.

Quant management
Mathematical models are used for analysis and selection of equities in our actively managed equity funds that apply a quantitative asset management approach. The advantage of quantitative asset management is that it enables fund managers to apply a systematic approach to processing vast quantities of data. The fund managers can then select securities with properties that are expected to positively impact the portfolio’s long-term return. Sustainability is incorporated in the selection process, for example, when the fund managers prioritise companies whose operations, in various ways, benefit the transition to renewable energy and energy efficiency or companies that contribute to the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
